Mini Fabric Baskets

 

Fun little sews using all the fabrics. It has been fun to make them from current & older fabric designs. They make cute little reminders of fabrics that I love & can be switched out for moods & seasons.

I use them at my sewing table to hold clips & small stuff. They work great to hold my current project zipper, tabs and any small bits while I'm at the sewing machine. They can be used anywhere you like & make great little gifts.

These minis were designed to be fun & cute. So, pulling all the fabrics from my stashed goodies was a surprise each time. Fabrics I haven't used in a good while.

September...sewing projects

I have many projects to work on this month and yikes!...September is almost gone. Sharing my WIP's for National Sewing Month..September!
The pixie quilt, cookie exchange quilt, sew together bags, pumpkins, pillows....are all started and I'm having a grand time.

Cookie Exchange Fabric...Pattern 'Lucky'

The cookie exchange fabric is an absolute pleasure to sew with....from SweetWater and the finish on this fabric is superb! I have opted to make a nine block quilt as opposed to the 12, designed in the Lucky pattern. For reasons.... where I'll be using it...a square simply appeals to me. I have the recipe print too and will be using that for the back, along with some of the others.

When, I set out to do a quilt, I draw the block on the computer, print it out several times & cut into small note sized pieces. It helps me keep all of the shapes of the block in check. Really, helpful when you sew like I do...re-inventing and switching from project to project. I make notes on the paper blocks and color with pencils. I take that block paper piece to the sewing machine with me too.

This was a super helpful tool for the lucky blocks. I used the same color palette throughout but the fabric patterns were different. And...because those HST go in different directions throughout the block....this kept me straight on late night sew-ins. I have nine blocks finished & ready to go to the next step. 

Pixie Quilt.... Pixie Noel Fabric... Pattern my own.....not sure I'll wing it like this again :0)   I have it all worked out and have opted for more strips and a nice border. You can preview my dilemmas on my previous post. I get myself in all kinds of messes at times....just me sewing;)

I chose to remove the top & bottom center blocks and I made two more pixie fussy-cut blocks. The plan now, is too make simple four patch blocks in a sashing strip & finish again square, with a nice border.

Sew Together bags....I have seen so many wonderful bags on IG. The possibilities for this bag are really only limited to your imagination. I found the pattern to be very easy to get along with, once I got moving with it. This is my third bag, the other two took off like a flash and no pictures were taken. But that's okay....I see many, more happening real soon. 

I used 5 fabrics for this one. Lewis & Irene's Spring/Summer '16 Collection - Tales of the Sea were my main fabrics. I chose 3 of the same print in different colorways and used some stashed pieces for the pocket linings & binding.

As, I was sewing this one....I planned the next, they are habit forming & make great Gifts!

The little pin cushion caught in the pictures was another quick sew.

pixie making...part one

I have started a pixie quilt. I planned for it to be a lap size but it seems to be growing (in my head) Once, I got nine blocks finished and took a look at the layout, I wanted to add more to it. This is what happens to me, when I don't stick with a pattern. It's a lot of fun this way but also a bit mind boggling. It's just how I create....what can I say.

I wanted it to be an easy sew because I have a lot on my plate right now and wanted to be able to sew all the projects on my list. I arranged the layout on my computer and figured out color placement & went with 2.5" strips and squares - making 8" blocks.  Now, I'm at the point of whether to do sashing? border? ...more blocks?
Decisions!

One thing is for sure, I love to cut out the little pixies. This is really a sweet fabric collection & I can tell you, there are more makes on the horizon. It's one of my favorite color combinations & so far my favorite collection by Tasha. There's something about striped tights & those bunnies....am I right?
Catches me every time...fun!

I'll figure things out for the quilt, while a spend some time in the sewing room tonight. Pixie making continues....I'll see you soon.

A new tablet cover...for me

I've made a couple of these tablet covers and this one....I hope ...is mine.
I picked out a few HB selections a couple of weeks ago. Happy Mail Arrived!...and I love them but this has always been one of my favorites. Lollipop from the Freshcut Collection.

Because...I was thinking this was for me all along, I added a strap that I don't normally do for this pouch. Whenever, I am using my tablet I am almost, always involved with ten other things. I find myself picking it up with other things and traveling from room to room. My arms are always full with fabrics, sketchbook, another book and some kind of gadget & usually a cup. So, a strap works great & no worries of dropping it! 

This is another project that just came together as I went along. I measured my tablet and got busy cutting. Added some old buttons and a pouf button. I love to make these buttons and most happy to use them in my projects. Little tufted 3/4" poufs that sew on just like a shank button. Tutorial in my 'Make Things' tab.

A nice little pocket for my stylus but I forgot to get it for the pics.....That will come in handy too! and A scrunchy elastic loop closure because it was a good way to hide the elastic and super easy to sew. 

I am liking this cover and keeping this one. 

I can see myself using it everyday. I kinda want to make another...;) 

I may have to get more of this fabric, while it is still available and also on sale!

I'm trying to be good and not buy fabric on impulse....hard? Ummm, just a bit but I like that my sewing room is getting organized again and I actually have openings for some new things. Happy with the empty spots.... Clean and no clutter.

I've been busy.... steady sewing a little something everyday....working on those piles of fabric. I have a lot of things finished but somehow the piles don't seem to be moving much. I am determined though and I got to playing a bit & arranged them like books.

I got the Block Four of the Chatelaine bow and it's all cut out and ready to go. I have a surprise to share with you about that too! I decided to make two versions because I've always wanted to make an aqua & red mini. These blocks are perfect for that, measuring at 6 1/2" and each one so far have been little sewn treasures. Even the ones where my points aren't lined perfect...Heck I don't mind....that used to bother me tremendously... I've learned to just let it go. ;) I'll rip it out once, twice, even three times and if it doesn't work after that... I just look away and carry on. So, my mini aqua&red is started and I'll be sharing that soon. I chose 2 of the four blocks so far and will add blocks, as I go along, making the original one.

That time of year again. Steady sewing....... and I am cutting into any fabric I want. Those fabrics that get tucked away for special projects, that never make it out of the drawer. I've decided to get them out. And out they are...all over the sewing room. Fun! but I have to either sew them up or put them back. I'm sewing...........

...a little petals drawstring bag.....plus a whole lot more...

...because ..... I really don't want to put all this back..

and this is only one pile.

Ready to Sew

This weekend has me busy pulling fabrics for my 'Miss Mousey' project. The stitching is done and now I am ready, for all the sewing fun! I've selected a few fabrics, from a mix that I love and think will be a perfect match for this soon to be pattern.

I'll be busy working on this and don't forget ...there's one more Miss Mousey ready for her final stitches and then one more to finalize. The third is still on the drawing table....but it won't be too long, she'll be speaking colors and fabrics with me. (smile  :o)

She Who Sews Challenge...finish line!

So here we are...The reveal of the 'She Who Sews' Challenge.
When thinking of, what I wanted to make, for this challenge....I decided it had to be, a decorating project.
And something, I could finish in the allowed time. May is an extremely busy month over here.
I wanted to showcase the fabric and have it fit in, with my sewing room. I am constantly re-arranging and fussing in this room. It is not very big...actually, just big enough. I have a few furniture pieces, that have been re-purposed from our move here. This chair is one of 4. They are scattered about in my Studio. For visitors,different tasks and I sew, sitting at one. They're small scale, light weight but sturdy and have rushed seats.  So, I decided on a cover of some sort. I was happy to see my package arrive with the two cuts supplied by Joy Studio. The blue tape measure and blue flowered prints.

...and because I have a nice assortment of the 'Handmaids' fabric.....I was picturing patchwork.

A nice, cute, patchwork...cottage...chair...that was my goal.

The chair has a curved back and would need more time, to make a tufted back. So, I made a tied, lightly padded, wrap, to go over it. I played with this part, several days. When, I can't think of what to do with one area...I move on, to something else and come back. Usually, it all falls into place and comes together. There are some things, I will do differently for the next chair and I know they will, all have a look of their own. 

That is my favorite (one at least).... part of a challenge. Toss around ideas, mix and match or mismatch and cut, cut, cut... that fabric. Ah Hmmm....yes, I realize I'll be sitting on scissors...This chair is sitting back in a corner, as a welcome. A pillow, is in it's near future...I think. and I will have a great time making another...3 others. ~smile~

The posy flower was fun...fabric strips twirled and stitched. I want to make more of these....and some other ideas ran through my mind, while sewing with the Handmaids. So much fun!

Spring...Come on in

Enough of the winter stuff already....nope more coming Sunday night. I took my garden flags down last night, those little snowmen were scheming thru the night I think. The snowflake window charms were laying on the table ready to be put away. I put them in the very bottom of the drawer, while I waited for my coffee this morning. Then with brew in me cup I marched upstairs to the studio and pulled fabrics for a project... a Spring-y one too! The fabric is reminisce by Bonnie Christine and I just love the colors. I'm making bed pillows and I want to do the entire room with this collection. So pretty and the feel of the fabric is divine.

I ordered only four designs by her but I tell you.... I am going back for more. At least it's spring up here in my sewing room, even though the skies say otherwise. I do see buds on the dogwood tree. And lots of blooms on my table.
