How 'bout...another pin cushion...?

I made another....pin cushion. This time using 'HandMaids' by Janet Wecker-Frisch. I had fun, fussy cutting those spools and pins from the different fabrics and sewing them up with the tape measure prints.....watercolor blue, yellow, green, orange-red.....snip, snip, snip.

Followed by sewing a BIG red button in the center....and I made a very simple one....because I love the print so much & had to fussy with it, to capture all the goodness within my 6.5" circle. And I sewed a BIG blue button on this one. Two others are the segmented kind with perle cotton cinched to the center button.
My button jar got some much needed love this week... ;)

That little red pin cushion in this print and in the HandMaid's hair on another are stash worthy. It was absolutely the 'eye candy' that caught me onto this fabric collection in the very beginning.

As you see, those tomato pin cushions in the background above.... are from the last Hop...in 2014 & I snipped it out for one of the side panels. I just love the spools, buttons, sewing machines and typography in this print! There are just so many goodies to fussy cut and make a project all your own.

Nifty, Gifty Sewing, with sneaks and surprises

starts now....

Surprise... you're sewing tomatoes today

Well Surprise! I didn't know I was making tomato pin cushions today either...not exactly.

At the rate I am going... I'll have a bushel by the end of the year. I got into my 'Hand Maids' fabric collection again and began to sew. I saw the collection there on the shelf and away I went. These have been on my list for a while...
This time of year, my creativity is at an all time high and so, Ideas continue to flow. Creating and doing....happens without thought or plans...I just need to make things.

The colors of the fabric evoke heirloom tomatoes and I can see some pretty pears too.

I tend to stream in and out of color schemes and styles.  In the last 2-3 weeks, I've gone from pink pretties to aquas & reds, to soft, cute, shabby....some red & white and now these. True art in fabric.

This fabric is very unique and yet so flexible. I fear cutting it, that I will waste an inch of artwork. But I save the smallest pieces for another day....another project. It fits in really well with other fabrics too, making it very fun to work with. I have other ideas on my sewing table to be sewn using this collection. Projects that have been waiting....Imagine that!

I like to make new things for the sewing room, particularly around this time of year. Something about the air, the cozy of warm inside your home. Seeing something new is always nice too. So, I wonder what's next?

She Who Sews Challenge...finish line!

So here we are...The reveal of the 'She Who Sews' Challenge.
When thinking of, what I wanted to make, for this challenge....I decided it had to be, a decorating project.
And something, I could finish in the allowed time. May is an extremely busy month over here.
I wanted to showcase the fabric and have it fit in, with my sewing room. I am constantly re-arranging and fussing in this room. It is not very big...actually, just big enough. I have a few furniture pieces, that have been re-purposed from our move here. This chair is one of 4. They are scattered about in my Studio. For visitors,different tasks and I sew, sitting at one. They're small scale, light weight but sturdy and have rushed seats.  So, I decided on a cover of some sort. I was happy to see my package arrive with the two cuts supplied by Joy Studio. The blue tape measure and blue flowered prints.

...and because I have a nice assortment of the 'Handmaids' fabric.....I was picturing patchwork.

A nice, cute, patchwork...cottage...chair...that was my goal.

The chair has a curved back and would need more time, to make a tufted back. So, I made a tied, lightly padded, wrap, to go over it. I played with this part, several days. When, I can't think of what to do with one area...I move on, to something else and come back. Usually, it all falls into place and comes together. There are some things, I will do differently for the next chair and I know they will, all have a look of their own. 

That is my favorite (one at least).... part of a challenge. Toss around ideas, mix and match or mismatch and cut, cut, cut... that fabric. Ah Hmmm....yes, I realize I'll be sitting on scissors...This chair is sitting back in a corner, as a welcome. A pillow, is in it's near future...I think. and I will have a great time making another...3 others. ~smile~

The posy flower was fun...fabric strips twirled and stitched. I want to make more of these....and some other ideas ran through my mind, while sewing with the Handmaids. So much fun!

I am sewing away, getting ready for a She Who Sews Challenge with Joy Studio.
